About
The new programme at KRI combines divisional racing and progressional racing.
Age-group racing is divisional. Entries are split into divisions. Each event is completed on one day. The age-group programme extends over two days with different events available each day.
Class-based racing (i.e. novice, club, senior, prem) is progressional. Events have heats on day one and finals on day two. Each class-based event in the programme is raced on both days.
Merged Events In order to best show the effect of mixing divisional and progressional racing the regatta has been built using merged events. The finals of progressional racing for class-based events on day two appear as separate events (e.g. F10) in the programme but are merged into and entered through their day one counterparts. Having merged events means the crews can be easily duplicated into the programme for day two - so any plant or crew clashes are more obvious during entries.
Entry Limits
Class-based rowers can enter a maximum of 3 events and cannot enter age-group events. These rowers compete in novice/club/senior/premier events.
Age-group rowers have a maximum number of events they can enter. Most age-group rowers cannot enter class based events and no age-group rowers can enter premier events:
- U17 can enter a maximum of: 6 age-group events; OR 4 age-group events and 1 class-based event; OR 2 age-group events and 2 class-based events; OR 3 age-group events.
- U16 can enter a maximum of: 5 age-group events; OR 3 age-group events and 1 class-based event; OR 1 age-group event and 1 class-based event and 1 novice event*; OR 1 age-group event and 2 novice events*
- U15 can enter a maximum of: 4 age-group events; OR 2 age-group events and 1 novice event*; OR 2 novice events*
- U14 can enter a maximum of: 4 age-group events; OR 2 age-group events and 1 novice event*
* Age-group rowers in Novice crews. Age-group rowers may only compete in novice events if they are novice rowers. There is a limit on the number of U14 and U15 novice rowers that are allowed in a novice crew:
- Novice 2X: U14 and U15 cannot enter novice 2X events.
- Novice 4+: each crew has a maximum of 1 U14 rower and 1 U15 rower.
- Novice 8+: each crew has a maximum of 2 U14 rowers and 2 U15 rowers.
Age-group exemption any rower who qualifies as U15 or U16 and who either is not at school or is at a school that does not have an available rowing programme can substitute non-premier class-based events for age-group events (at a 1:2 ratio) - the basis for claiming exemption must be supplied with entries. Exemptions can be claimed when updating competitor profiles.
About age-groups: if the age-groups seem lower than usual it is because they correspond to the age-groups rowers will be in at the end of the season i.e. on 1 Jan U14 -> U15, U17 -> U18, etc...
