NZSSRA reminder

Attending Maadi is a privilege not a right. Schools can expel their students from the regatta at any time for disciplinary reasons. A handful of students were reminded this the hard way yesterday. They breached their school's expected standards of behaviour, and were removed from their crews and sent home. Expulsions are infrequent. So it is hoped no other students will prematurely end their regatta this way.

Race Committee announcement

Three protests were lodged on Wednesday. None was upheld.

Coxswains

The Chief Umpire again reminds coxswains of the need to weigh in on time. Once repechages are complete arriving late will result in exclusion. Please contact the Chief Umpire at the earliest opportunity if something arises. He can't help you if he only finds out after the fact.

Race Committee announcement

Due to crew changes that affected the seedings the B U18 8+ (Event 52) was redrawn. Event 40 has also been re-drawn after scratchings and a heat cancellation. The updated day sheet is online. A hard copy update for these two events will be available from the office on Tuesday morning.

Race Committee announcement

A school mixed up 2 of its crews; putting them into the wrong races. This meant each crew missed the race it had drawn. That could not be rectified without allowing two non-notified 100% crew changes, which is not appropriate at a Championships. So the crews will not race again this regatta.

Safety briefing

100% turnout for the Safety Briefing. A great start to the regatta. But Adult Safety Officers now need to make sure all the information they received is disseminated to competitors!

2017-03-27 00:48:27
Protests

Protests are unlikely to be accepted unless they are made on the water.

2017-03-26 14:45:21
Boat Weighing

Facilities will be available from Saturday to check your boats weight. Spot weighing will start on Monday. Some boats will be check weighed throughout the regatta and after medal ceremonies (underweight boats will result in the loss of medals).

2017-03-26 14:41:25
Traffic patterns

In addition to Traffic patterns as per issued publications, please note crews exiting the course area during a race will be instructed to return to the course. The course is defined by the large white buoys at the 250m, 500m, etc. Failure will to do so will result in an instruction to stop rowing and possible relegation to last place. This is to avoid collisions with structures on the Domain side of the course and/or rowing into traffic heading to the Start or in the Warm down lane.
In general, traffic patters and rotations are clockwise.

Time keeping

We will be making every endeavour not to run late. Crews must attach 2 min before race time. We will not wait for late crews. If we are late we will attempt to catch up in an orderly fashion, but by definition if we are late and crews are not at the Start, they are late.

Coxswains and Light Weights must weigh in during the period specified in the Rules of Racing, outside this, penalties will be applied.

2017-03-24 14:05:10
The start

Crews need to be there at least 5 min prior to race, and marshalled off the end of the pontoon. Depending on conditions exact placement may vary. However you need to be in lane order. Once onto the course crews need to attach 2 min prior to race time.

Crews should attach by the STERN, if you attach by the BOW, there is no guarantee you will be turned round.

Please get your Crews to go to the Start prior to race day and practise if they are unfamiliar. We will assume your crews can manoeuvre their boats appropriately in a variety of conditions.

Heats and Reps - Listen to the aligner, as aligning to get some perspective on how close to Start. Start commands will be "Quick Start", "Attention", variable pause, and audible hooter.

Quarters, Semis, and Finals (assuming 5+ min gaps) - Commands will be a Full Roll Call, "Attention", variable pause, and audible hooter.

2017-03-24 14:02:21
Finish

At the Finish DO NOT lie down in the Boat. This will prompt an Emergency response. You should lean forward to recover. If in need of assistance get a crew member to raise their hand.
Do not sit in the finish area, please return to the Pontoons or the Warm down area promptly

2017-03-24 13:58:50
Compliance checks

Checks of boats will be made and a coloured sticker will be applied to complying boats. Race Officials will be available on Sunday and will be going around the boat park to start this process. Please take advantage of this and get your boats checked.

Heel ties, single hand release, bow balls, and Coxswain compartment bulkheads will have specific focus (Rule 7A of Safety System).

Once stickered your boats may still be spot checked. Non-Compliant crews will not be allowed onto the pontoons until they have been made compliant. You may be asked to take your boat back to the boat park to avoid congesting the launch area. This is why it is a good idea to seek out Race officials early and get your boated checked prior to racing.

All Boats should have been Compliance Checked by end of the Heats. It is Crews and Coaches responsibility to keep them in that condition throughout the regatta. Spot Checks near the pontoon area will continue every day, with extra focus on Singles, Doubles, and Pairs.
