Biosecurity requirements

Biosecurity requirements:
1. Exemption has been granted from using the Te Ngae Rd wash station, provided all vessels/equipment follow the guidelines below.
2. Upon arriving onsite (after 1pm Friday), we also ask that you complete a self-certification form either online ( https://www.boprc.govt.nz/do-it-online/self-certification ) or in-person to confirm that they have completed the Check, Clean, Dry process. Physical forms are provided next to each boat ramp or there is a sign with a QR code that takes you to the online form.
3. Please complete these actions prior to arriving at the Blue Lake (Lake Tikitapu).
4. The Check Clean Dry helps protect our lakes from not just Gold Clam, but others like Cat Fish and pest weed species, keeping them beautiful for the future.

High lake levels:
1. Parking for boat trailers is very likely to be in a different location from previous years due to high lake levels. You’ll be directed on arrival. Please be patient as parking may take a little longer than usual.
2. Submerged rocks are present. Full details on their locations will be provided at the safety briefing.
3. Bringing plenty of dumps is a good idea as the lake levels are still high and this means the usual area is not available for boat trailers so a longer walk to the lake for entrants.

Rubbish:
The regatta has in place a ‘pack in/pack out’ policy for rubbish. Please take all rubbish away with you. Black rubbish sacks will be provided at the same time as the Check, Clean, Dry process.

Full details for biosecurity:
The following permission has been granted under s 134(1)(b) of the Biosecurity Act 1993 (the Act) on 5 January 2024, to allow the Rotorua Rowing Club and any person acting under its direction or control to move vessels from the Waikato River into Lake Tikitapu without complying with the requirements of the Corbicula fluminea Controlled Area Notice, for the purpose of attending a rowing regatta from 19 to 21 January 2024 i.e. entrants/vessels/equipment entering Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake) do not need to use the wash station on Te Ngae Road provided they comply with the below actions.

Waikato Boats (Full information sheet attached)
As a condition of entry and in alignment with Ministry for Primary Industry and Biosecurity NZ guidance (guide link below), we require all participants arriving from the Waikato River waterway between Port Waikato and Lake Maraetai to have:
• ‘Blasted’ their boats and oars with water, and
• Any life jackets or clothing (or other absorbent materials) should be hot washed in the washing machine (>60 degrees Celsius for at least one minute), and
• All equipment must be towel dried and then left to dry for another 48 hours prior to entering the lake.
• Completed the online self certification https://www.boprc.govt.nz/do-it-online/self-certification

All Other Boats
Please complete the Check, Clean, Dry process (flyer attached) prior to arrival. Boat Control will be conducting self certification checks on ALL boats entering the boat parking area, and on each vessel prior to its first entry onto the lake.

The lake will be CLOSED for all vessels until 1.00pm on Friday 19 January 2024. No boats are permitted onto the lake until this time and they must have fulfilled the self certification process! There will be staff at the lake checking boats from 1.00pm. Stickers will be attached to the boats to prove that self certification has been evidenced.
