Emergency Entry Limits

Following record entries at Memorial Regatta Day 1 (25% increase in heats since 2019) and Club Regatta (11% increase in heats since 2019), the Regatta Committee has introduced emergency entry limits to Christmas Regatta to prevent the regatta from being oversubscribed which would lead to crews being rejected after entries close.

Last season Christmas Regatta had more crews and competitors than any other regatta in New Zealand.

All Novice, Intermediate, U15 and U16 singles and doubles events will be limited to 1 crew per club plus 1 per affiliate school; or 1 per school.

This reduces the per-entity limit from 2 to 1 for the most popular small boats events with the least experience and/or ability. It will have the greatest impact on entry numbers while affecting the smallest number of rowers. These limits will be the first to be lifted during supplementary entries. Heats may be added to these events if time allows with preference for making more entries available to higher grade doubles events before singles events and lower grade events.

All other singles and doubles events (excluding Senior and Premier grade) will be limited to 2 crews per club plus 1 per affiliate school; or 1 per school.

This reduces the limit for schools entered as schools from 2 to 1. It will prevent entry numbers being increased through schools entering separately from their club to get an extra crew.

The limit of 3 crews per rower and 2 small boat crews per rower will remain unchanged.

Thank you for your understanding in this regard.

Kind regards,
KRI Regatta Committee

Oversubscription

The current format increases the risk that the programme for a given day may oversubscribe.
In this case the following may occur:

> supplementaries do not open
> races moved between days
> minor finals removed
