Modified progression approved

The Schools Committee have approved the application to modify the Option 7 progression system on an emergency basis for the 2019 Aon Maadi Cup.

The progression for 65 to 72 entries will be as follows:
+ 9 Heats: first three to Quarter-Final; last place eliminated; rest to Repechage
+ 5 Repechages: 1st to Quarter-Final; 2nd to Final E; 3rd to Final F; 4th to Final G
+ 4 Quarter-Finals: first 4 to Semi-Finals; 5th and 6th to Final C; 7th and 8th to Final D
+ 2 Semi-Finals: first four to Final A; rest to Final B

Over-subscribed events

Entries have closed for this years Aon Maadi Cup regatta with two events exceeding the maximum of 64 entries. The events are the Boys Under-17 Single Scull and the Girls Under-17 Single Scull. Karapiro Rowing would appreciate any early scratchings for these events.

There are several options available going ahead:
1. Run Time Trials for these events; not a favoured option.
2. Remove all number 2 crews from these events. This would not stop anyone attending Maadi Cup as there are no number 2 crews for which this would have been their sole race, but it would mean that there would be a number of crews who would now only have one race at Maadi Cup.
3. Modify the progression system to accommodate 72 crews for this year. This is the preferred option at this stage as the regatta is generally slightly smaller than previous regattas and so could accommodate the three extra races that would be generated. This Option has to be approved by the Schools Committee and an application has been made to them.

Lightweight events

The New Zealand Secondary Sports Council de-sanctioned lightweight rowing (see announcement here: www.nzsssc.org.nz). Consequently the lightweight fours and doubles events will not be accepting entries.
